LifeLongLearning

Ocean:lab of the Forschungswerkstatt, the school lab of Kiel University, has installed courses in which primary (from 4th grade) and secondary school students address themes of marine research. Tailored to their specific levels of learning student groups get insight into methods used and current themes followed by researchers. Visits at the ocean:lab are designed to represent an addition to natural science curricula. Advanced training for teachers offers to school by ocean:lab. It is performed in close cooperation of schools and university, teacher education and economy as well as of the cities and state of Schleswig-Holstein. Ocean:lab is financed by the Cluster of Excellence ‚The Future Ocean‘.

KMS offers international and interdisciplinary courses for Marine Master's Degree Programmes.

The Integrated School of Ocean Sciences is the platform for doctoral education that serves the inter- and multi disciplinary research community in ocean sciences in Kiel. Over 160 doctoral candidates from five faculties of the University participate in the doctoral programme,  and are supported through a wide array of multidisciplinary scientific courses, supplementary training, a supervision framework, financial support for travel and profile-building, and opportunities for career development. At the ISOS, early career scientists look beyond their doctoral research to issues of ethics, research integrity, sustainability, ocean governance and much more, with 15% of the offers produced on demand. This is possible due to active support of senior scientists, alumni, and partners from within and outside the University. Over 250 Alumni from the programme show the wide array of career paths after the doctorate, allowing us to support candidates better in proactively planning for life after the doctorate.

The 'Integrated Marine Postdoc Network' (IMAP) within the Cluster of Excellence 'The Future Ocean' is a network of more than 100 postdoctoral researchers who work on fixed-term contracts at one of the Cluster's partner institutions in Kiel. All IMAP members have associate member status in the Cluster and work on interdisciplinary projects in the multidisciplinary marine sciences in Kiel. IMAP offers both a platform for networking and support in career development but also has the strategic aim of improving the career perspectives for researchers completed their doctorate. IMAP is financed by the Cluster of Excellence "The Future Ocean".
