Research questions

Much of the recent research of Ulrike Kronfeld-Goharani has focused on issues in the field of maritime sociology and ocean policy, concentrating on the following main subjects: sustainability research, capacity building and maritime economy. Central research questions include:

  • What kind of a picture of sustainability is construed in the hegemonic process in ocean affairs and how can the ambiguity of meaning be explained?
  • How can people be empowered and mobilized to make more sustainable choices?
  • How can forms of knowledge other than research insights e.g. artisanal fisheries be better included in making political decisions?
  • What role do ocean business and the private sector play in reference to the implementation of the concept of sustainability in ocean affairs?
