Markus Bleich studied medicine at Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg, graduated and received a doctorate in 1991. He qualified as a Professor and was granted the Venia legendi in Physiology in 1998. Since 2004 he is Director of the Institute of Physiology at Kiel University (CAU).
Research questions
- How do organisms respond to environmental challenges to maintain homeostasis?
- How is salt-, water- and acid/base homeostasis achieved on the cellular level?
- What controls and regulates cellular membrane transport?
- How is membrane transport characterized pharmacologically?
- What are the functions of claudin proteins?
