Information about Prof. Dr. Till Requate


Till Requate studied Mathematics and Philosophy at Bielefeld University, and received a Ph.D. in Economics in 1989. He held a post-doc position at Bielefeld University from 1990 to 1995, was associate professor at the University of Oldenburg from 1995 to 1996. From 1996 to 2002 he was full professor for Environmental Economics and director of the Interdisciplinary Institute of Environmental Economics at the University of Heidelberg. Since 2002 he is a professor for economics at Kiel University. His major fields of interest are environmental and resource economics, competition policy, and experimental economics.

Till Requate was awarded the Eric-Kempe prize by the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economics in 2004 and the best health-paper award by the ‘Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gesundheitsökonomie’ in 2012. He also worked as a consultant to governments and NGOs, notably for the World Bank, OE CD , and Invent.


Research questions

  • How does countries’ asymmetry in wealth and being affected by global warming impact on their willingness to pay to green house gas mitigation?
  • How to design fishery management regulations under age structured fish stocks and multi-species interaction?
  • How to design efficient, market based incentive schemes to employ renewable energy? What is the role of marine based renewable energy systems?
